BASIC SKILLS AND READING PROGRAM
The academic progress of each student is monitored each marking period, and a determination is made at the end of each year whether Basic Skills instruction should be offered for the following year. Eligibility for the Basic Skills Program is determined by student performance on state and district assessments, classroom academic progress, and additional assessment measures.
Reading Intervention Services
The reading specialists provide supplemental language arts literacy instruction to those students whose performance, judged on the basis of multiple criteria, indicates they would benefit from such assistance. In addition to obtaining input from the classroom teachers and analyzing data from standardized tests, the reading specialists administer research-based screening instruments to identify individual areas of weakness and strength. This data enables the specialists to develop specific goals for each student and to provide each student with the skills necessary to become successful readers.
